The national campaign for the collection of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) “Romania Recycles,” organized by the ENVIRON Association, kicks off on July 15 in Constanța County, in the town of Grădina, and will continue in Hârșova and other localities across the country. All municipalities are invited to join the program, which has led to the collection of over one million kilograms of waste electrical and electronic equipment from Romanian households, within more than 1,000 local actions.
The mechanism of the “Romania Recycles” campaign
“Romania Recycles” supports local public administrations and citizens by offering a simple, free, and legal model for collecting waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) directly from households. Under the slogan “Keep the memories, but give up old and non-functional electrical appliances,” the campaign aims to clear homes and institutions of appliances that are no longer in use but are kept either out of nostalgia or due to lack of recycling options.
In addition, with the adoption of Law no. 127/2024, which approves and amends Government Ordinance 5/2015, it has become even clearer that local public authorities are obliged to ensure the necessary infrastructure for separate collection of electrical waste, in line with European standards.
